Easy Audio Editor Documentation
Getting Started
Welcome to Easy Audio Editor! This tool allows you to load, edit, record, and save audio files directly in your web browser. Everything is processed locally on your machine for maximum privacy.
Loading Audio
- Drag & Drop: Simply drag a WAV, MP3, or M4A file from your computer and drop it into the designated dashed box at the top left.
- Click to Select: Click anywhere inside the dashed box to open a file browser and select your audio file.
Recording Audio
- Microphone Selection: Use the "Source" dropdown in the Record panel to choose your desired microphone.
- Start/Stop: Click the Record button to begin recording. The timer will show your elapsed time. Click Stop to finish and automatically load the recording into the editor.
Playback & Navigation
- Transport Controls: Use the Play, Pause, and Stop buttons to control audio playback.
- Clicking the Waveform: Click anywhere on the waveform visualization to jump the playhead to that exact moment.
- Zoom: Use the Zoom slider located directly below the waveform to zoom in for precise editing or zoom out to see the entire track. The view automatically follows the playhead during playback.
- Looping: Toggle the Loop button. When enabled, playback will loop the selected region, or the entire track if no selection is made.
Making Selections
To apply effects or cut specific parts of your audio, you first need to make a selection.
- Click and Drag: Click and hold anywhere on the waveform, then drag left or right to highlight a section of audio.
- Adjusting Edges: Hover over the left or right edge of your selection until the cursor changes, then click and drag to resize it.
- Select All / Deselect: Use the buttons in the Selection panel to quickly highlight the entire track or clear your current selection.
Applying Effects
Effects can be applied to the entire track, or just to a specific selection you've made.
- Cut Selection: Removes the currently highlighted audio and stitches the remaining parts together.
- Reverse: Plays the audio (or selection) backwards.
- Normalize: Automatically boosts the volume so the loudest peak hits maximum level without clipping/distorting.
- Gain: Adjust the volume up or down manually. Move the slider to set your desired decibel (dB) change, then click Apply Gain.
- Fade In / Fade Out: Gradually increases volume from zero at the start of your selection, or decreases it to zero at the end.
Saving Your Work
Once you are happy with your edits, use the options in the top right to download your file.
- Save WAV: Saves a high-quality, uncompressed version of your audio. You can choose either 44.1kHz (CD quality) or 48kHz (Video standard).
- Save MP3: Saves a compressed, widely compatible version of your audio. Use the dropdown next to the button to select the quality (bitrate): 320 kbps (highest), 192 kbps, or 128 kbps (smallest file size).
